NWDP Q3 2025 Update | Shaping the Future of Donegal Town

Donegal Town Community Development and Growth

The NWDP have had a very busy few months engaging with a range of interested groups and, in particular, with various departments within Donegal County Council (DCC).

Rural Regeneration & Development Fund (RRDF)

We recently met with leaders in the Town Recreational Department, who are spearheading the RRDF initiative. The aim is to develop a regeneration strategy for Donegal Town, beginning in 2026.

  • NWDP will play a pivotal role in supporting DCC during consultation.

  • Results from NWDP’s public surveys (available on our website) will directly inform the plan, ensuring community needs are reflected.

Donegal Town Local Area Development Plan

We are also working with Executive Planners in the Central Planning Unit of DCC, responsible for finalising the Donegal Town Local Area Development Plan.

  • The plan is expected to be ratified by County Councillors in mid-December.

  • Once adopted, it will guide development for the next five years.

  • NWDP’s focus: ensuring lands are zoned appropriately to support social, recreational, and economic needs.

Donegal Town / Ballybofey Trail Head

Collaboration also continues with DCC’s design team on the Donegal Town/Ballybofey trail head.

  • NWDP submitted a sketch design proposal for the Donegal Town trail head, located beside the Bosco.

  • This proposal is currently under consideration for the final design.

Upcoming: Public Park Survey

Looking ahead, NWDP are preparing a Public Park survey for release in October.

  • The survey will be shared on our social media platforms and website.

  • Local input will be key to shaping how this amenity develops.
